The Pizza Pasta & Italian Food Association has received assurances from the Mayor of London’s office that pizzerias using wood burning stoves are safe – at least for the time being.
It was recently announced that Mayor Sadiq Khan had written to the Chris Grayling, Secretary for the Environment, asking for extra powers to ban wood burning stoves in parts of London.
In response to concerns raised by the Association, the Mayor’s office has now given PAPA assurances that they are aware of the issue for restaurants using wood burning ovens and do not want to cause them any difficulty. The measures are being considered to control the use of domestic wood burners, they say, and nothing is likely to happen before 2025.
They also promised to consult with the Association before any measures are introduced.
