PAPA Joins Met police for a campaign against moped theft

Over 15,000 motorcycles, scooters and mopeds were stolen in London in the last year. No doubt our delivery drivers and operators are being affected a great deal so we've put our support behind the MET Police's campaign.

As part of the campaign the MET recommends that you:

Reduce the risk, use multiple security features to make it harder for them to steal.

Did you know?

Scooters are often stolen to carry out further crimes across the capital, such as phone snatches. Protecting your scooter could also help to reduce these crimes.

To contact police or to report crime call 101, visit or contact @MetCC.

In an emergency always dial 999

We recommend using a quality Thatcham approved, professionally fitted alarm and tracking system which will put off thieves and could reduce your insurance premiums.

  1. Lock your back wheel, with the chain off the ground to street furniture if possible. If not, thread the chain through the frame and back wheel to protect parts being stolen. Thieves can easily use a hammer or angle grinder if a lock is on the ground.
  2. Use disc locks to secure the front brake disc and stop it from being wheeled away.
  3. Use grip locks on the handlebars and always engage your steering lock.
  4. Using a cover makes your bike less attractive to thieves as they often look to steal specific models.
