Bravo! The PAPA Awards Crown the Industry's Best

The Pizza, Pasta and Italian Food Industry Awards (PAPA) announce 2017 winners.

Last night the UK’s Pizza, Pasta and Italian Food Industry came together to recognise and reward the best in the Italian Food Industry. From the finest spaghetti to the best pizza delivery company, we have searched the country to find the Italian food industry’s finest.

The 28th Annual PAPA Awards also celebrated 40 years of The Pizza, Pasta and Italian Food Association.  Originally formed in 1977 as the Pizza Association, the Association is the only formal trade body in the UK representing the broad pizza, pasta and Italian food and drink industry. The Awards dinner hosted by comedian Dominic Holland and chef Theo Randall saw the Italian food industry celebrate the UK’s favourite cuisine.

The UK’s finest Independent Italian Restaurant is Spaghetti Tree in Surrey; the best Independent Pizza Restaurant is Vince’s Kitchen and Pizzeria in Hertfordshire and the UK’s finest independent Pizza Delivery outlet is Red Tomato in Doncaster.

The Pizza Restaurant Chain Award went to Zizzi; Ask scooped the Italian Restaurant Chain Award and for delivery, Dominos won the chain category. Tesco collected the Best Frozen Pizza for the supermarkets and Aldi for the Best Chilled Pizza.

These were just some of the awards given out at the 28th Anniversary PAPA Awards at the Royal Lancaster London Hotel, Hyde Park. Some 400 of the Industry’s leading lights came out to recognise the wonderful achievements of their peers.

The PAPA Industry Award

The 28th annual PAPAS have recognised Carnevale for their outstanding contribution to the industry. The name Carnevale is synonymous with the supply of premium Italian food ingredients – in particular, fresh award-winning Italian cheeses, meats and pasta - to the UK’s Italian food and restaurant sector.

A family-run business since 1966, Carnevale was originally founded by brothers Carmine and Giovanni Carnevale from Capracotta in Molise, Southern Italy, and who both went on to carve a successful niche for themselves in the manufacturing and selling of mozzarella and ricotta for the first time in central London. The company still produces and supplies these highly-regarded cheeses from its BRC-accredited facility in London today, and much more besides.
