Calorie Labelling - 15 February 2022
With calorie labelling due to come in from 1 April, there is serious concern over the very unclear guidance from the Department of Health as well as their reluctance to answer questions. Even local authorities are finding the guidance wanting! Essentially, any out-of-home foodservice business employing more than 250 people and charging for food must provide calorie details on their labelling from that date. Food provided free, such as for patients, is exempt as are schools with pupils under the age of 18. One of the unclear uncertain factors, which is still under discussion within the Department of Health, is how a portion is defined in terms of calories. We are working with our Primary Authority to get clarification of these issues and will circulate details as soon as we get some answers.
